Summer Meme: Sing Along / Seven Songs
The homie, Roney Smith (aka @Seedoflife) tagged mi! i like this tag, cause its relating to music! aaaah yesh, and the theme is interesting as well; songs that are shaping your summer! awsome idea, and a tag from an awsome dude! lets do it! here are the instructions:
“List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring summer. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.”
7. Busta Rhymes – Turn Me Up Some
Truly a great Dilla track. Not only is Busta flippin his patterns and weaving his usual lyrical magic, but the tightened drum kit, with a killer set of melodies. Dilla & Busta do it again. Peep the Redman sample!
This track always make mi slouch a lil in mi seat, headnodding terribly…
6. Dez Dickerson – MODERNAIRE
okay, yall remember this song from Purple Rain, however, it was not on the soundtrack! thanks to some diehard Paisley Parkers, the song is in its entirety on youtube! this is mi only way to hear this song, as THIS vinyl is hard to get ahold of without spending a grip. the open highhat on the snare when the hook runs is that small bit of genius. you cant help but do the damn dance! heh
5. Super – Misty Hours
im SO convinced this group no longer exists. they sound like a lounge act, and i think theyre from Finland or some place. I got a sample CD years ago and was hooked. then it became harder and harder to find their damn music. wait…just did more digging. heres some info on the group. anyhow, “misty hours” is like an ode to summer and city life. “come stand here on the empty square, high on nightly air”. Minna Joenniemi on lead vocal…her voice is enchanting. hit mi privately, and i’ll give you a taste. their music is awsome.
4. CunninLynguists – Yellow Lines f. Phonte & Witchdoctor
serving suggestion: this is a song you listen to after doin the nasty. the window open, blinds blowing gently. youre either getting rubbed, or your rubbing someone lightly. the music speaks for the summer indeed. and you’ll need to say nothing while this song plays in the background. notable lyric:
Put a spell on ‘em, Forgive me Lord but I’m hell on ‘em
Baby we grown folk, So let me longstroke
And send em back to they man with my smell on ‘em
Let me be quiet before I tell on ‘em – Phonte
3. Janet Jackson – Warmth
if there ever was a theme song for oral sex, THIS was it. not that summer has everything to do with sex, but i dig this song for various reasons. 1st off, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis produced this sexual wonder, and its so minimal, yet, oh so sensual. the bass is infectious. the lyrics; oh so nasty. great job, Flyte Tyme!
2. Devin The Dude – Dont Wanna Be Alone
damn, another ballad. this one is really a hip hop ballad with a twist. its comedy, but its a great friggin song! for once, im stumped on the sample, but it goes to work!
1. The Beach Boys – In My Room
“in this world i lock out all my worries and my fears.” this has been a favorite of mine for some time now, but it really sums up mi summer. i feel so comfortable and safe within the walls of the studio control room. i am able to just focus on music, locking out the BS and concentrating at the task at hand. alternatively, when at home, im usually in mi bedroom. thats where mi computers are, mi xbox360, clothes, and MPC2000. needless to say, this was definately #1 for shaping mi hermit of a summer.
and now i tag mi favorite people that havent already been tagged:
Moneke – Tais – Desiree Devine – 2TheHead – Nicky Black – Jack Lhasa – ChristyXCore
goooood times, yall!
yee!
