Grandmas Funeral…Guess Who I Met?
Posted in Words on Mar 25th, 2008
Grandmas funeral was beautiful. Mi Uncle Tommy (Grandmas Brother) is a minister, and though it wasnt his church, he was asked to approach the pulpit and spit some of that Gospel Gansta. He has such a magnificent way with words…though I dont follow the Christian faith, I respect it.
Anyway, we are @ the dining qtrs, eating and mingling. Earlier; Mi Brother, and 3 of mi cousins dipped round the corner to smoke a blunt. Not wanting to return TOTALLY smelling like blunt smoke, some of us hung outside, smoking cigs. A Decon stepped up to us to talk about what a Onederful person mi Grandma was, and how I used to play drums for the church when I was 6 yrs old.
A young man (about 16 yrs old) was standing near the Decon, listening to our convo. As we headed back inside for chicken and punch, he flags mi down. “Tofu?” he said.
“Yes, thats right..”
“Are you a Producer?”
“Yeah!” *smile*
“Whats your Dads name?”
By now, Im lookin at the lil nigguh, wondering what his next question is gonna be. I tell him mi fathers name, and he looks mi straight in the eye and says, “IM YOUR BROTHER.”.
I look at mi other relatives and mi jaw hits the ground. He continues asking the necessary questions about our pimp-ass Grandpa, our crazy Uncle, and our 7 other syblings (of which Ive only met 4…well, 5 now. him being the youngest), and we both know ALL of the answers! Later, we exchange info and I promise to keep in touch.
A complete blessing in disguise, yall! Mi Grandmother leaves us, and somehow reunites mi with a lost Brother. The Circle of Life is interesting, aint it?
Goddess, Thank You. =o)

that is a wonderfully OH SHIT moment….but its a blessing…lol
That picture says it all! Thats fuckn nuts!
I fear one day that I will be standing in your shoes. (The possibility is pretty HIGH)
Man, that is crazy! Well, glad to hear that, though it was startling, it was a pleasant meeting. Hope you and the fam are all good.
that’s awesome!! how cool it is to connect with new and reconnect with old relatives. unfortunately, the passing of a loved one is sad but as crazy as it sounds, i look forward to going to funerals just to see old relatives that we haven’t seen since…well the last funeral. I hope you and your brother stay in touch–i hope he’s computer savvy so he can stay connected to you through here.
